Review : Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15

Another summer foundation review? YES 🙂 well, it’s summer…and I have a horrible obsession with trying new foundations and when else better to use mineral foundations than summer?

Ingredients :

Active Ingredient – Zinc Oxide. Ingredient: Pearl Powder. May Contain (+/-): Mica (CI 77019), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

What it claims :

“Helps clear the skin of toxins, promotes healthy skin cell growth, and fights the aging process. Oil-free and water-resistant, it can be applied either as a buildable foundation or a pigmented powder.”

My Thoughts :

I have actually used this mineral foundation before and I don’t even know why I stopped! I guess it’s because it IS quite pricey, but it is the best I have ever used. It is so quick to use. You don’t even really have to use a mirror to apply this. I just use my E.L.F kabuki brush to buff it in. It doesn’t feel like you have a TON of makeup on, which is really great for the summer when it’s just so damn hot and humid that you don’t want to feel like you’re wearing a mask, but you still want to look like you have perfect skin.

On the colors : 8/10

Sure, there aren’t like 20 different shades to choose from like Bare Escentuals, but I feel that almost anyone can find their match. I know it’s not supposed to change to your skin tone after a bit, but I feel like it does! At first, when I put it on it is a little bit light, but after I put on some blush and let it all set, it matches perfectly! I mean, if you have are like a shade or two different, obviously the color match won’t be correct, but if you’re a bit off, it does work out in the end!

On the coverage : 10/10

The coverage of this mineral foundation is really great! You don’t need too much to cover a lot. After a minute of buffing this in, all my redness is gone and my acne is concealed. The only thing is that I need to use concealer to cover up some acne scars, but seriously, just by covering up my redness so well, I am willing to go the extra step. A lot of you may feel that it doesn’t deserve 10/10, but really, even if I use a liquid foundation with more coverage, I usually still need a concealer to cover up my acne scarring. This does exactly what I want it to do. COVER REDNESS and even out my skin tone while still leaving it glowing, but NOT GREASY. So hence, the 10/10.

On the lasting power : 8/10

The lasting power of this is alright. After 5 or 6 hours, I do need to reapply, but that’s in the humid weather of Hong Kong. When I’m back in the states, it DOES get a bit better, but I haven’t really tried this out in the winter yet, so I’m not sure. I usually blot my face, spritz with some Fix+, then reapply on my T-zone and outer cheek areas.

What I don’t like :

The main thing that I dislike is the fact that it contains Titanium Dioxide, which makes it have a white cast in flash photography. It’s not as bad as the Lioele BB Cream I did a review on, but I usually don’t wear it at night. If I need to go out at night, I usually remove all my makeup and reapply a different NON-SPF foundation.

Overall : 9/10

This mineral foundation is definitely the best out there! It is more expensive than other ones like the Bare Escentual ones are like around $20 – $25? This one retails for $35. Although I haven’t personally tried the Bare Escentual ones, I have heard from some of my friends that it’s not as great and hyped up as people make it to be. I don’t know why, but I’ve never really been drawn toward Bare Escentuals. I hear all these great things, but one day I was looking for a mineral foundation and I suddenly just reached for this Laura Mercier one! And I have not regretted it once!

Tip :

Need more coverage and not want to use concealer? Try using a BB cream or tinted moisturizer under it to give you a bit more staying power and coverage without feeling like you have a ton of makeup on!

Review : Lioele Water Drop BB Cream SPF 27/PA++

Looking for something AMAZING for summer? Something that feels as light as a tinted moisturizer, but actually covers imperfections? Something that makes your skin look AND feel healthy? Something that heals your skin while making it look instantly beautiful? Well, that’s what BB creams do! BB creams have been and still are the craze in Asia, and FINALLY, it’s hitting the U.S.! Even though this review isn’t on an American BB cream, it is accessible in the U.S. through online orders or those small little Asian cosmetic stores! Some links will be at the bottom of this post!

Now, onto the review!!!

Ingredients :

Water, Phenyl Trimethicone,Titanium Dioxide, Cyclopentasiloxane, Alcohol Denat,Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate,4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, Talc,PEG-10 Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, CI 77492, Sodium Citrate,Methylparaben, Chlorphenesin, Butylparaben, CI 77491, CI 77499, Fragrance, Cyclomethicone,Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Disodium EDTA,PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethyl Menthane Carboxamide , Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Hexyl Laurate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract,Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract, Citric Acid

What it claims :

“Water capture system provides increased hydration when compared to W/O Type BB Cream on the market and has a feel of soft moisturizing cream when applied. Water droplets form upon application, making skin feel cool and moist with a light wear allowing for no stickiness.Contains various plant extracts to keep skin moist and healthy, providing a natural color.”

My Thoughts :

Lioele’s Water Drop BB Cream is actually the second bb cream I have every tried. My first impressions of this bb cream is that it is VERY refreshing and it almost feels like I left it in the fridge before applying this. It’s a water based product, so it is definitely perfect for those with oily skin or just for summer! I love water based products, because it feels amazing on my oily skin. It actually doesn’t feel like I’m putting layers and layers of product on my skin.

On the colors :

Actually, I purchased this a while ago from Sasa in Hong Kong, and I THINK there was only one shade. Correct me if I’m wrong, please! I know that Asian BB creams are definitely more on the lighter side, and I’m not too pale, so I was VERY surprised that this bb cream matched me so well! It does take some time to adjust to your skin color, but when it does, it is almost perfect!

On the coverage :

The coverage of this BB cream is definitely more on the sheer side. If you have blemishes or acne scarring, you DO need a concealer. It does cover up most of my redness and evens out my skin tone pretty well, but when I have a pimple or 3, I have to reach for my concealer for sure. You CAN layer this for a bit more coverage, but I usually just apply one and then use some concealer.

On the lasting power :

The lasting power of this is okay. Let’s just say it’s not gonna last you 12 hours in the summer. It does last around 7 hours for me with a setting powder, but I have very oily skin, especially in the summer when it’s super humid! I do have to reapply powder around 4 hours ,so half way through, I start to get shiny. Not too bad for oily skins! 🙂

What I don’t like :

The only thing that I don’t like is that the SPF is so high in this BB cream that if I wear it at night and I get my picture taken, I look cray cray. You can literally see the white flash on my face. So after that horrific experience, and the picture uploaded by my friend onto Facebook, it is forever haunting me. I have learned my lesson to just SOLELY use this during the day and if I was going to a party or hanging out at night with my friends, I will REAPPLY another foundation without SPF!

Overall :

This BB cream is great for those with oily skin or for those looking for a light foundation for the summer. Add some concealer and setting powder for those with combination/oily skin, and your skin will look FLAWLESS. Only use this in the day, because it is not your friend in flash photography. Reapply another foundation for events at night!

Tip :

I LOVE to use this during my flight, before landing. Whether it is a 6 hour flight or a 13 hour flight! My skin looks real bad during a flight, and in most cases, I have to meet my friends or family right after landing, so I would apply this BB cream 1 hour before landing. This is PERFECT because it is water based, making it super moisturizing and it helps plump up the skin a bit, making post-flight skin less congested and dehydrated.

Summer Makeup Routine 2012

Here in Hong Kong, it already feels like summer! Humid and hot, hot, HOT! Think Florida, yeah? I usually live in California, where it’s more dry and less hot (AKA less sweat throughout the day), but now that I’m here, I definitely need to switch to a more summery makeup routine!

1. Kirkland Brand – Powder Brush

2. E.L.F – Powder Brush

3. Lioele – Water Drop BB Cream

4. Laura Mercier – Foundation Primer

5. Laura Mercier – Translucent Pressed Setting Powder

6. MAC – Creme Color Base in Pearl

7. MAC – Blush in Melba

8. MAC – Studio Finish Concealer in NW20

9. Giorgio Armani – Brow Defining Pencil in 3

10. K-Palette – Real Lasting Eyeliner 24H

11. YSL – Touche Eclat in #2

12. Urban Decay – Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Love Child

Sorry! Forgot to number the last brush

13. Kirkland Brand – Contour Kabuki

This is definitely my go-to as of right now! My skin is oils up really quickly and this routine has kept my oiliness at bay, other than my nose getting a bit shiny, for 7 hours without any touchups needed! Amaaaaazing! 🙂 The Lioele Water Drop BB Cream gives practically no coverage, but it does even out my skin tone a bit. So if you have acne scarring and some redness like I do, you can definitely still use this with a good concealer!

I know it seems like quite a bit of products for the summer, but each product, I use minimally! I don’t like to be smothered with makeup in the hot and humid weather either!
